Yoga for Sleep

NZ $10 Tuesday’s 8pm - 9pm

Online via Zoom

This class is designed to create the conditions for a good nights rest. Stress increases the amount of the hormone called cortisol which inhibits the production of melatonin - essential for a good nights rest. This class consists of carefully selected yoga asana (mostly twists and forward bends) and breathing exercise (diaphragmatic breathing is one of the most effective ways of downregulating the stress response) designed to bring us into a deeper state of relaxation.

What to Expect

A safe space to deeply relax.

Postures (asana)
Forward bends and twists (especially reclined ones) help stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, or our bodies relaxation response. When we are relaxed our body can sink into a deeper sleep.

Breath Practices
Designed to reduce the ‘fight and flight’ response and increase the bodies relaxation response. Done through increasing the exhale, lengthening the breath and using the diaphragm.

Yoga Nidra
Yoga nidra translates to ‘yogic sleep’. It has been shown to reduce beta and alpha brain waves (conscious thoughts) and increase delta brain waves which indicate deeper states of consciousness and more restorative sleep. It utilises tools such as a ‘rotation of consciousness’ to trick a busy mind and help you sink into a state of deep relaxation.
