Tuesday’s 6pm–6.45pm
Online via Zoom
This class is designed for the 90% of people who have lower back pain where it is classified as non-specific. It is designed to include postures specifically chosen to strengthen the lower back and core as well as release muscles such as the iliopsoas. The goal is to create harmony between all the muscles in the lower back to reduce unnecessary tension through posture and simple breath practices.
What to Expect
A safe space to explore practices designed to relieve your lower back pain.
Back Strengthening Poses
Baby Cobra, Full Locust or a gentle standing back bend.
Core Strengthening
Short plank holds. Not many peoples favourite pose but a strong core is essential for a healthy, pain free lower back.
Breathing Practices
Breathing using your belly may be a crucial tool in relieving your lower back tension. It helps massage the fascia and releases tight muscles that can be causing your lower back pain.
Sample Class
-
Take a few moments to settle into the space. Then learn how to breath in a better way. Diaphragmatic breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system through the vagus nerve. Breathing in this way also massages the connective tissues in the lower back, helping to loosen them up. Afterwards you may feel more relaxed and ready to settle into your practice.
-
Time to work (at your own pace of course - you are welcome to rest at any point as you need). Gentle warm up followed by poses specifically chosen to target the lower back region such as cobra, warrior poses, malasana and short plank holds.
-
Poses to wind down such as reclined twists, waterfall and shavasana. This part is crucial for your lower back. Expect the last 3 - 5 minutes to practice mindfulness meditation as this has been shown to be effective in managing chronic pain.
